      At Kanpai we provide top quality traditional Japanese cuisine and service for you to experience. We had long been regarded as one of the finest traditional Japanese restaurants here in Edinburgh.

      We are absolutely thrilled to win the Newcomer of The year in the Scottish Restaurant Awards 2012 against 4000 competitors across Scotland.

      One may choose to dine at the intimate sushi bar or the open kitchen counter, where you may observe how your sushi is made by our chefs. Other than the open space for customers to dine, there is also a private room that can be book for more private space.

    • Sake 日本酒 has been enjoyed in Japan for thousands of years and remains an indispensable part of Japanese life and culture to this day.

      • £8.90Gekkeikan Traditional Sake (Tokkuri~170ml)
        Gekkeikan has been making and selling sake since 1637 in Fushimi, a district of Japan’s former capital of Kyoto. This sake is distinctive for its natural fragrance and mellow taste. Aged for a period of approximately six months. When warmed to approximately 45 degrees Celsius, the fine balance of the different constituent elements of its flavour can be fully appreciated.

        It is a full bodied, deep, mildly fragrant, dry Sake. 16% alcohol Sake is the traditional alcoholic drink of Japan, it is a strong rice wine and can be drunk hot or cold. It is made from polished sake rice which is then fermented. The more polished the rice, and the more rice used, the more refined and aromatic the Sake. It is a social drink that is poured into short cups and enjoyed with nibbles or Japanese dishes.

        Kikumasamune is one of the oldest breweries in Japan. ’’Kimoto -zukun’’ is the traditional way of making sake. Crispy and dry taste with lovely earthy robust woody notes. Goes well with full flavoured dishes.

        Brewed since 1662 in Nishinomiya, Hyogo. Refreshing and tasteful flavour of sake, use 100% yamadanishiki rice, clean finish. Particularly good accompaniment to vegetable tempura, sushi, sashimi, spicy tuna and tofu.

        By the 17th century, the plum had become an important part of Japanese cuisine and was widely cultivated. Gekkeikan Plum Wine is made by a unique recipe utilizing select fermented plums which produce a refreshingly fruity fragrance and delicate taste. It has a sweet, sour taste, and an alcohol content of 10–15%.
